1957 Chevy 2 Door 210 Delray - Ginger
The body was made in Van Nuys, CA and the car was assembled in Los Angeles, CA and has a rare one piece front bumper. The original exterior paint was India Ivory and Canyon Coral. It once had a Blue Flame 6 cylinder and a 3 speed Transmission. I learned that Ginger made its way to New Mexico and at some point and was restored, painted dark blue and had a gray interior. In 1988 the owners and the 57 relocated to somewhere in or near Livingston, TX. I have a photo of our car that was taken in 1988. It was a very nice looking car but things were about to change. I guess you could say Ginger was about to get an "Extreme Makeover".
In 1989 our car was sold to Robert Murphy of Livingston, TX. Robert with the help of his best friend from High School restored the blue car to look like a 1957 Chevy Sierra Gold 210 Delray Club Coupe he owned while attending college in the 1960's. From Robert Murphy I acquired photos of the work that was done on Ginger. One of the first things he did was removing all the paint at a company in Houston, TX called Soft Strip. Under all that paint appears to have been an almost rust free, problem free car. Over the next few months Robert and his friend completed all the body work and painted Ginger Sierra Gold inside and out. Even the interior upholstery of Ivory Vinyl and a Charcoal Pattern Vinyl was duplicated to look like his earlier 1957. The engine in Ginger is a Chevrolet crate 350 with a 4 bolt main. Other items installed on the engine were a set of Corvette aluminum heads, Carter AFB carburetor, Competition Cam and coated headers with Flow Masters exhaust. The 4 speed transmission is a Borg Warner Super T10 out a 1978 Trans Am. The rear end 3rd member is a Positraction from a 1964 Chevrolet. He also installed a Pioneer sound system. In December of 1990 the restoration was complete and Ginger looked stock but had a modern or upgraded drive train.
In April of 2003 Robert sold his car to the Mike and Jeff Cassidy. They own a small restoration shop in New Caney, TX. At this shop the Cassidy's installed a Gen IV Vintage Air, 2 inch drop spindles, 2 inch lowering kit on the rear, S-10 disc brakes, dual master cylinder, American Racing Hopster custom rims and Nitto low profile tires. 17 inch X 7 inch on the front and 17 inch X 8 inch on the rear.
I purchased this car in October 2003. Since that time Ginger has been to many local cruise nights here in Lake Charles, Louisiana and I'm always asked about the color. In December 2003 Ginger placed in the top 20 at a Car Show in Cameron, LA. On May 1st. 2004 Ginger was entered in the first large car show of the year. She was awarded a top 3 plaque in the Classic class and was chosen by 4 different local car clubs as their "Club's Top Choice" at the event and awarded a wall plaque by each club. It's now 2007 and over the years Ginger has won many awards and retained her good looks. In the four years I have owned this car none of the awards mean more to my wife & I than the 100s of thumbs up we see as we drive her around Lake Charles, Louisiana.
