1957 Chevrolet Wiring Diagram – In 1955 Chevrolet switched from a 6 volt electrical system to a 12 volt electrical system. There are several good reasons for the 12-volt electrical system. The 12 volt system was required for the new high performance V-8 engines introduced beginning in 1955.
With a 12 volts system more voltage was available for additional items such as air conditioning, heaters, fans and a radio. Plus 12 volts made for quicker starts during cold weather. A 12 volt system was an important change for the 1955, 1956 and 1957 Chevrolet.
